Hyperhidrosis Treatment Sydney

Treatment for excessive sweating
Male hyperhidrosis treatment model 01, MUSE Clinic

Hyperhidrosis is an uncontrollable condition that causes excessive sweating that is unrelated to vigorous exercise or fluctuations in temperature. While sweating is not usually a serious medical problem, hyperhidrosis can be a major source of embarrassment, particularly in social situations. When untreated, hyperhidrosis can cause complications such as fungal infections of the feet (athlete’s foot or tinea pedis), body odour, continuously moist skin (maceration), bacterial infections, and warts.

Hyperhidrosis is the result of overactive sweat glands that are triggered by nerves. The condition can be the side effect of an underlying medical condition such as cancer, diabetes or infectious disease but if there is no underlying cause, it is referred to as primary hyperhidrosis.

Fortunately, excessive sweating is a condition that can be treated with anti-wrinkle injections at MUSE Clinic Sydney, ensuring that you feel confident and comfortable throughout your everyday life. Check all hyperhidrosis treatment details here.

What Areas Can Be Treated with Anti-Sweat Injections?

At MUSE Clinic, we use anti-wrinkle injections to treat excess sweating on the following common hyperhidrosis problem areas:

  • Underarms
  • Hands
  • Feet

What to Expect During the Procedure

Before we can proceed with the hyperhidrosis treatment, any underlying causes will need to be ruled out and it may be recommended that you consult with a GP. If the excessive sweating is a result of an infection, medication or another underlying cause, you will be diagnosed with secondary hyperhidrosis. Once the underlying cause has been treated, the secondary hyperhidrosis should go away. If you are diagnosed with primary hyperhidrosis, the condition can be treated with anti-wrinkle injections as a long-term symptom management solution.

If you are concerned about discomfort, an anaesthetic can be used to numb the area before treatment begins. However, patients can find that hyperhidrosis treatments don’t feel any worse than a regular injection. A fine needle will be used to inject small quantities of the anti-wrinkle product just below the surface of the skin, which will temporarily block the nerve signals that are causing excessive sweating. The amount of anti-wrinkle product injected per treatment will be measured in units, and the number of units needed will be different for each patient. Generally, when treating the underarms, about 100 units of the anti-wrinkle injection product will be used. When treating the feet and hands, about 100-200 units are used.

The average treatment lasts around 15 to 20 minutes, so it is possible to schedule it over your lunch break. Minimal to no downtime will be required after the treatment, allowing you to return to your normal daily routine.

The results of your treatment will last anywhere between four to 12 months and most patients will require repeat treatments every seven to 12 months to maintain their results. You may notice some minor bruising or the appearance of red bumps on the treated area straight after treatment, but this should subside within the first week after your procedure. When you come in for your hyperhidrosis treatment consultation at MUSE Clinic Sydney, you will receive some recovery instructions that you can follow to ensure that you obtain the ideal results. These recovery instructions can include:

  • To avoid strenuous exercise
  • To avoid rubbing or touching the area
  • To avoid excessive exposure to heat, such as saunas or steam rooms
  • To keep the treated areas clean
  • To limit caffeine and alcohol consumption
  • To avoid smoking
  • To care for your general health by following a nutritious diet and staying hydrated

How Much Does Hyperhidrosis Treatment Cost at MUSE Clinic?

The costs of treatment for excessive sweating will vary from patient to patient. Since the treatment is performed with anti-wrinkle injections, prices will be determined by the number of units of the anti-wrinkle product used. The number of units will depend on the amount of muscle relaxant that each individual patient will need in the treatment area to effectively reduce excessive sweating.

As a guide, 100 units of the anti-sweat injections are used to treat the underarms, while 100-200 units are typically used to treat both of the hands or feet.

Booking a confidential consultation with one of our informative, experienced and supportive injectors is the simplest way to estimate your total costs for anti-sweat injections.
